Fleur de Lys, 'lilies' in English, have been known and cultivated since old times -- thousands of years B.C. -- on the island of Crete, in Egypt, China, the Middle and Far East. There are over 100 species of lilies, each in different colors and nuances.
In the medieval times, the powerful sign of the lily embodied authority coming from God, and appeared in the heraldic symbols of royal houses in Europe - the "fleur-de-lis", often associated with the French Monarchy.
